Saw "We Will Rock You" aka the Ben Elton and Queen musical today. Totally rocked! The cast vocals weren't perfect but the solid band, witty pop music and local references, and the overall nostalgia more than made up for it.
The musical just opened and runs through April at the Esplanade. Highly recommended for Queen and Freddie Mercury fans, lovers of rock'n'roll, and heck - even those merely familiar with We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions as sports chants or Who Wants to Live Forever as the Highlander theme song.

When Freddy Mercury passed away, some guys were on the radio parsing out "BR." They said it was about Mercury's life as a flamboyant homosexual, how his mother must have reacted to his coming out as if he were a murderer, and so forth. Lines like "Beelzabub has a devil put aside for me" speak to this. Read the lyrics and let me know what you think.

Given the events in Freddie's life then (mid 1970s), what you said does fit. As I wrote in an LJ comment, I find Bohemian Rhapsody a musically fun, complex yet universal song about self discovery, conflict, hope for redemption and eventually acceptance. These are pretty timeless themes that resonate for all.
